About Myself: Emerson Cozine

Read below to learn more about me.

Hello! My name is Emerson Cozine. I’m a current student at Loyola University of Maryland diligently working towards two degrees in writing and communications with a journalism specialization. Additionally, I’ve completed a film studies minor. My course work with writing includes the study and practice of rhetoric, poetry, creative non-fiction, fiction, and pros. Through service learning, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work with my local Baltimore community and write various personal stories, launching the unheard voices. Following a similar avenue, my communication work has targeted at hands on involvement with Adobe software to find the best path for telling a piece. This has allowed to enrich my understanding of behind the scenes production work to creating my own websites, podcasts, films, and radio stories. Blending both of these immersive majors is followed by my passion, film studies work. The material I receive give me opportunities to explore the art of film and the composition of various pieces.

Outside of my educational studies, I’m involved in numerous activities and extracurriculars on campus. At Loyola, I’m a Greyhound Ambassador and continuously get to share my experience here to prospective students through conversations, panels, and tours. I also engage myself in my community through CCSJ, the center for community service and justice, by going to multiple service events. I’ve become a recent member of the National Academic Writing Society, Pi Epsilon Pi, where I give back and boost the opportunities within the Writing Department. Additionally, I’ve just become a Group Fitness Instructor at our Fitness and Aquatic Center teaching barre classes. Other than campus based organizations, I’m extremely passionate about film and art; I have a custom shoe business called Emerson’s Custom Creations and when I’m not painting, I enjoy creating my own films or writing scripts.

Portfolio Links and Descriptions

Below are an assortment of class materials I completed in my Digital Tools class. These projects use a mix of different Adobe platforms and illuminate the skills I learned. Links will bring you to a downloaded pdf of the work and you can find visuals of the work by clicking on the Portfolio Tab at the top of the page!

About Me Collage

This project entailed us practicing on Adobe Express and getting a feel for the platform. We were asked to create a collage that represented us with things we liked or our passions in a square sized area. Using our own aesthetic choices, filters, and photos, our composition reflected not only our interests, but our favored design compositions.

Photoshop Activity

For this activity, we were asked to craft a comprehensive graphics package for a mock podcast using Adobe Photoshop. We had to create four different artboards for each graphic: YouTube Banner: 2560 x 1440 pixels, YouTube Thumbnail: 1280 x 720 pixels, Instagram Post: 1080 x 1080 pixels, and Instagram Story/Reel: 1080 x 1920 pixels (vertical).

Illustrator Pathfinder Activity

Our introduction to Adobe Illustrator before moving into larger projects was practicing on this template as well as fun activities like the pen tool game. Navigating the various tools on Illustrator, we filled it with our own attempts at shapes. Some required the removal of overlapping areas of two shapes where others focused on vectors and tools.

Illustrator Monogram and Icon Activity

During this project, we worked on creating two personalized graphics. The monogram was a creative, nuanced form of our initials that we would later use in other projects and can use in future professional work. The icon was supposed to represent an aspect of our personality or interests. With both graphics, we used Adobe Illustrator and focused on composition of color, spacing, and size.

All in One

The purpose of this assignment was to compose our works from the first few weeks into a customized pdf. The Adobe Express Collage, Photoshop graphics, Illustrator designs, and creative resume were packaged together with banners on each page and as an introduction to the project. The banner was created following similar procedures from the Photoshop activities, with the addition of using Adobe Express.

Creative Resume

Using Adobe Indesign, this project focused on turning our classic resumes into a creative, personalized experience. As observers take in the piece, they are able to get a better sense of your style and personality you chose to showcase. The creative resume also included some previous work done by Adobe Illustrator. The program where the project was built prompted us to use various tools and shapes that enhanced our understanding of aesthetic design.

Adobe Express Webpage

This project, using Adobe Express, showed us how to embed different styles of media into an interactive composition. We could either use the program to share a story from spring break, fun memory, time, or event. The final product included several photos, attention grabbing titles, well written paragraphs, collages, and a video created using Adobe Premiere Pro.

Podcast

For this activity, we were asked to create our own podcast on any topic with a total run time of at least ten minutes and two people. Following whatever style of podcast desired, we were asked to have a coordinating cover art 3000 x 3000 pixels–created on Adobe Express. Additionally, we were encouraged to use Adobe Podcast or Adobe Premiere Pro so our recording would be clear and smooth.

How The Web Works- Short Answers

During this project, we were asked to answer an array of questions about the inner workings of the web. Using provided resources and helpful links, our understanding of the web would prove valuable when composing our own websites.
